SBA opens $9 million SCALE grant competition for U.S. supply chains
The U.S. Small Business Administration is launching a new grant competition aimed at easing supply chain bottlenecks for small businesses and expanding domestic production capacity. The SCALE program sets aside $9 million over a two-year performance period and plans to award 20 grants of up to $500,000 each.

SCALE funding targets strategic industries
As announced by SBA.gov, the new competition is open to public and private entities, nonprofits and institutions that can provide accelerator programming, technical assistance, industry engagement or related services for small businesses in priority supply chains.The agency says applicants must focus on one of six areas: advanced manufacturing; biotechnology and biomanufacturing supply chains; defense industrial base technologies and components; energy, critical materials and industrial inputs; food supply and agricultural systems; and transportation, logistics and industrial infrastructure.
SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler says the program is intended to support domestic suppliers as they respond to rising demand, reshore production and strengthen industries ranging from agriculture and energy to defense.
Application deadline and policy focus
Proposals must be submitted electronically through Grants.gov, with applications due by Aug. 7 at 4:00 p.m. ET. General questions about the opportunity are being directed to the agency's accelerators email inbox.The SBA says the initiative fits into a broader policy push to increase investment in manufacturing and critical supply chains in the U.S. The agency presents SCALE alongside expanded access to working capital, changes to long-term investment vehicles and technical assistance for onshoring as part of its effort to reinforce industrial infrastructure and economic security.
