Highlights

  • India attracted over $40 billion in foreign currency inflows recently, improving external liquidity via RBI-supported FCNR(B) deposits.
  • Despite strong inflows, the Indian rupee's value remains fairly stable, with negligible spillover impact on AUD/LKR trading dynamics.
  • AUD/LKR trading is pressured below key short-term averages, with intraday signals favoring a likely downside move toward LKR233.37–LKR235.71.

Domestic flows dominate as Indian inflows show little spillover

India has recorded over $40 billion in foreign currency inflows in the past two months following special measures by the Reserve Bank of India to attract funds, primarily through FCNR(B) deposits, according to Economictimes Indiatimes. While these inflows improve India's external liquidity and could influence sentiment in regional forex pairs, there has not yet been a notable change in the rupee's value. This limits the direct spillover effect on AUD/LKR, leaving the pair more influenced by domestic order flows rather than recent developments in the Indian market.

Muted momentum and resistance test as volatility stays low

On the hourly chart, AUD/LKR is trading below both the MA-20 at LKR235.58 and the MA-50 at LKR235.64, with price action holding above the MA-200 at LKR224.29. The Ichimoku Kijun at LKR235.78 marks immediate resistance for the pair. Momentum indicators reflect a lack of strong direction: MACD signals a sell bias, ADX remains neutral, while RSI at 43.43 and CCI both lean bearish. Stoch RSI is neutral and Bull/Bear Power suggests some buyer presence despite the downward momentum bias, while overall volatility remains low.

Range-bound outlook as bearish odds outweigh bullish break

For the coming 2–3 trading days, price action in AUD/LKR is expected to fluctuate within the LKR233.37 to LKR235.71 range, consistent with typical short-term volatility. The probability model assigns a 68% chance of a move lower, with only 32% probability of an upward break. The most likely scenario is range-bound trading; a decisive bullish signal would require a close above the LKR235.78 resistance, while a confirmed bearish breakdown would follow if support near LKR233.37 fails.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees AUD/LKR holding in a tight range as technical momentum points to limited direction. Recent Indian inflows have not materially changed rupee sentiment, so cross-currency impact is minimal for now. Resistance at LKR235.78 remains key, with downside risk if LKR233.37 gives way. "Base case is range-bound action and I remain cautious until the pair reclaims LKR235.78 with conviction."
