Branko Milanovic examines when countries reached their highest gross domestic product per capita (GDPpc) relative to the world average.
He states that for Asian countries, this peak is occurring now, while for Western countries it occurred in the 1990s or early 2000s. For the U.S., Milanovic notes, the maximum relative GDP per capita was reached in 1952.
