Brian Armstrong, co-founder, chief executive officer, and chairman of the board at Coinbase, announced that Coinbase has been approved to offer global crypto perpetual contracts in the U.S.
He highlighted that this approval follows years of work and makes Coinbase the first to provide this kind of global liquidity to U.S. users. Armstrong added that crypto trading has traditionally moved offshore, underscoring the significance of this new approval for the domestic market.
Earlier this year, Armstrong announced Coinbase’s launch of pre-IPO perpetual contracts for SpaceX, with access available outside the U.S. Coinbase offered exposure to SpaceX before its IPO through these products. Armstrong has also highlighted crypto’s expansion into areas such as derivatives, stablecoins, and prediction markets across finance in previous statements.
