Nick Timiraos, chief economics correspondent at Wall Street Journal, reports that Alan Greenspan has died at the age of 100. Greenspan served as head of the Federal Reserve for 18½ years, gaining significant influence and reaching 'rock-star' status while shaping the U.S. economy under both Democratic and Republican presidents. Milton Friedman referred to Greenspan as the greatest of all time. The year 2008 brought a reassessment of his legacy.
Timiraos has previously reported on Federal Reserve activity, including the central bank's consideration of a rate hike at Kevin Warsh's first meeting as chair. He also covered Fed vice chair Michelle Bowman's attendance at a private Bank of America client dinner in New York following a major policy decision.
