Gita Gopinath, first deputy managing director at IMF, agrees with Fed Chair Kevin Warsh on the need to review central bank forward guidance.
She referenced IMF assessments in 2022 and 2023, quoting her Sintra speech in 2023 that questioned whether central banks, including the Federal Reserve, provided too much forward guidance during the pandemic.
Gopinath has previously highlighted fundamental disagreements between G7 economists and IMF reports on global imbalances. In a separate analysis, she pointed to research indicating that forced dollar devaluation did not resolve trade imbalances. These comments situate her current views on central bank communication within broader discussions on monetary policy and currency interventions.
