Japan selling U.S. Treasuries pressures curve

Bob Elliott, co-founder / CIO at Unlimited, highlights that Japan, the largest holder of U.S. Treasuries, is selling notes to finance intervention efforts, which is putting pressure on the midsection of the yield curve.

Elliott also suggests that hopes for a FIMA financing bailout of the Treasury market, as raised by Bessent, are not materializing.

Elliott has previously remarked that elevated housing prices are supporting U.S. consumer spending even as economic fundamentals remain weak. He has also observed that Chinese economic growth continues to lag as debt concerns persist. His recent comments build on these ongoing assessments of major economies.
