Scott Bessent: U.S. Treasury targets tax-motivated investment strategies
Treasury clamps down on tax strategies

Scott Bessent, 79th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and founder of Key Square Group, reports that the U.S. Treasury and IRS have issued new guidance aimed at curbing tax-motivated investment strategies.

The notice and a companion Revenue Ruling specifically address transactions structured to avoid taxes or exploit federal tax rules, including prearranged Section 351 ETF transactions.

Bessent recently highlighted private-sector job creation, noting the addition of over one million new jobs since January 2025. He also participated in G20 finance meetings with Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda, focusing on U.S.-Japan economic cooperation. These developments come amid continued attention to fiscal policy and regulatory measures.
