IMF sees record borrowing for advanced economies

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that net borrowing by advanced economies will reach 5.2% of GDP this year, representing the highest level since 2021.

Lisa Abramowicz, a journalist and co-host at Bloomberg, also reported that the IMF sees deficits in China and the U.S. rising to or exceeding 8% of GDP in 2026, based on the organization’s forecasts.

Abramowicz recently noted that high-yield bond spreads widened by 28 basis points over three days, marking the largest increase since October 2025. She has also reported that U.S. economic data disappointed analysts as the surprise index turned negative. These developments follow ongoing concerns over elevated fiscal deficits in major economies.
