Alexander Stahel: CCC-rated junk yields reach highest levels since 2020 amid costly refinancing
CCC junk yields reach 16 percent mark

Yields on CCC-rated junk bonds have reached their highest point since 2020, with borrowing costs now at 16 percent. As cheap debt matures, refinancing is increasingly difficult, resulting in a mounting burden for weaker issuers.

Alexander Stahel, founder and CIO of Commodity Private Equity Fund, described this situation as a sign that the era of cheap money is ending for the most vulnerable borrowers.

Stahel previously noted that both debt and equity investors have become uneasy with CoreWeave’s financing costs. In a separate instance, he reported that two customers accounted for 20% of Anthropic's H1 2026 revenue. These earlier observations reflect his focus on credit risk and client concentration in company funding.
