IBM stock targets $244 as investors weigh quantum growth
IBM’s focus on quantum computing supports its long-term outlook, although a lower revenue growth forecast is limiting investor optimism. Holding support at $220 keeps the recovery scenario intact, while upcoming U.S. labor market data could increase volatility.
Investors have focused on comments from IBM CEO Arvind Krishna, who expects quantum computing to begin generating meaningful revenue and profit for the company in 2028–2029. The long-term outlook is also supported by IBM’s plans to invest more than $10 billion in the technology over the next five years.
However, near-term sentiment remains cautious after IBM lowered its 2026 revenue growth forecast to 4–5%. At the same time, the company maintained its expectation for free cash flow to increase by approximately $1 billion.

Holding $220 keeps the bullish scenario intact
As noted previously, $230 represented a key resistance level for IBM shares, with the gap from May 21, 2026, located in this area. The stock failed to overcome this level and pulled back toward $220, where buyers successfully defended support. The $230 level remains the key threshold today. A decisive breakout would open the way toward $244, although stronger trading volume would be required to confirm the move.
Otherwise, IBM shares could retest support near $212.
US Unemployment rate may increase volatility
The next major macroeconomic event will be the release of the U.S. labor market report on August 7, including July nonfarm payrolls and the unemployment rate. The Federal Reserve closely monitors labor market conditions as part of its dual mandate. At its latest meeting, the central bank noted that employment growth remained broadly in line with labor force expansion, while the unemployment rate was relatively stable.
A significant deviation from expectations could alter the interest-rate outlook and increase volatility in IBM shares and the broader technology sector.
