Palantir stock forecast: Can PLTR break above $170 before Fed decision?
The balance of power within the AI sector is beginning to shift, with chipmakers coming under heavy pressure while some software companies appear more resilient. For Palantir, that creates an interesting backdrop ahead of a test of nearby resistance.
Interest in Palantir has increased following comments from company co-founder Joe Lonsdale. Business Insider reported that he rejected some of the more alarmist warnings surrounding AI development, arguing that the industry is capable of managing emerging risks. His position contrasts with recent calls from executives at Anthropic, OpenAI and other AI companies to slow the development of the most powerful models.
For Palantir, the debate is particularly relevant because the company sits on a different part of the AI value chain than frontier-model developers. Its business is focused primarily on deploying models across government and enterprise systems. As a result, even a potential slowdown in the race to build more powerful models would not necessarily imply a similar slowdown in demand for AIP and Foundry.

$170 becomes the key test for Palantir
In premarket trading on September 14, Palantir shares are holding up better than many major technology names, trading near $169.
That makes $170 the key resistance level for today’s session. A decisive break and sustained move above it could accelerate the recovery toward $175.
If buyers once again fail to generate enough momentum to clear resistance, the stock could return to support around $162.50.
A golden cross has already formed on the daily chart, as noted earlier. While this is traditionally viewed as a strong bullish signal, moving-average crossovers are lagging indicators, meaning an immediate rally is not guaranteed after the signal appears.
In the short term, the reaction around $170 should provide a more reliable indication of the next direction.
Fed risk could test Palantir’s relative strength
The main risk for Palantir may now come less from the AI sector itself and more from the bond market. The 10-year U.S. Treasury yield remains around 4.97% on September 14, close to the psychological 5% threshold, while money markets are pricing roughly an 87% probability of a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike at the September 16 meeting.
For a highly valued company such as Palantir, any further rise in Treasury yields could quickly put renewed pressure on the stock.
