Microsoft holds near $509 as $520 caps upside
MSFT is trading around $509 on September 29, settling into a quieter phase after its recent push toward $518–520. The hourly chart still looks constructive: the stock remains above its key moving averages, while the $500–502 area is gradually emerging as the nearest support zone.

AI spending comes under closer scrutiny
One factor continuing to support Microsoft is the company’s improving ability to monetize the AI infrastructure it has already built. In the latest quarter, Azure grew 43%, Microsoft Cloud generated $59.3 billion in revenue, and commercial remaining performance obligations reached $678 billion.
Demand for computing capacity continues to outstrip available supply, which marks an important shift in how investors are looking at Microsoft’s spending. The focus is moving away from capex as simply the cost of competing in the AI race and toward how quickly that investment can translate into Azure revenue, greater Copilot adoption, and new enterprise contracts.
Copilot broadens the revenue opportunity
Microsoft is also trying to broaden AI monetization across several areas at once. Beyond Azure, the company continues to expand Microsoft 365 Copilot, GitHub Copilot, and agent-based products, with a growing emphasis on usage-based pricing.
That could become another meaningful source of revenue growth if enterprise customers increasingly pay not just for access to AI tools, but for specific computing workloads and tasks performed by AI agents. At the same time, the scale of Microsoft’s capital spending remains a vulnerability. Investors still need evidence that massive data-center investment can be converted into higher earnings and free cash flow quickly enough.
$520 remains the key breakout level
The stock remains in a consolidation phase and is still trading below the key $520 level. The longer bulls fail to break above it, as I warned in Microsoft tests the top of its range as AI monetization gathers pace, the greater the risk of a move below $490 support, which could open the way toward $480. If that level also gives way, the next downside area would be around $460–440. A break above $520, by contrast, would put $540–550 back in focus.
