Hims & Hers Health launches men's weight management service in Germany
Men's weight management launch

Germany is becoming a bigger focus for digital healthcare providers as demand for obesity treatment and remote consultations grows. Hims & Hers Health says its new online service for men expands its reach in one of Europe's largest healthcare markets.

Highlights

  • Hims & Hers Health launched an online men's weight management service in Germany, enabling EU-licensed clinician prescriptions and digital care pathways for obesity.
  • German health insurance typically does not cover weight-loss medicines, leaving most patients to pay out of pocket and signaling limited access to treatment options.
  • The Germany launch expands Hims & Hers' European presence after last year's acquisition of UK-based digital health startup Zava amid rising telehealth competition in the region.

German rollout targets obesity treatment gap

As reported by Reuters, the new service lets patients in Germany complete an online consultation and, if eligible, receive treatment prescribed by EU-licensed clinicians.

Patients who need face-to-face care are referred to local healthcare providers, allowing the company to offer a digital pathway while directing more complex cases into the traditional health system.

Hims & Hers did not disclose financial details for the launch. The company says it is entering the market as obesity remains a major health concern in Germany, with nearly one in five adults living with the condition and more than six in 10 men overweight.

European expansion builds on UK presence

The company says access to weight-loss treatments in Germany remains limited because health insurance plans typically do not cover the medicines, leaving many patients to pay out of pocket.

Hims also cites survey data showing that more than 75% of adults who had tried to manage their weight did so without professional help, pointing to a potential gap in treatment access that digital health providers are seeking to address.

Hims & Hers already operates in Europe through the UK, where it strengthened its presence last year with the acquisition of London-based digital health startup Zava. The Germany launch adds to that regional footprint as telehealth companies compete for growth in large European markets.

We also noted his call for growth-supporting measures beyond monetary policy, including deeper EU market integration and targeted industrial policy to sustain innovation despite tighter financial conditions.
