Investor caution persists as restructuring costs weigh on profit

GSK reported third-quarter 2026 results that exceeded analyst expectations, driven by strong specialty medicines sales, as revenue reached £8.89 billion and core operating profit rose 5%, with core earnings per share at 54.6 pence, according to Investing.com. However, total operating profit declined 16% due to a £328 million restructuring charge, which weighed on overall profitability and contributed to investor caution. The company declared a 17.00p per share third interim dividend for Q3 2026, marking a 6.3% increase from the prior year, according to Seeking Alpha, but guidance for core EPS growth was kept at the lower end of the 7–9% range, reflecting higher interest costs from the Nuvalent acquisition as well as increased R&D investment.

Seller dominance intensifies amid oversold readings and strong resistance

On the technical front, GSK is trading below its MA-20 at GBX1,907 and MA-50 at GBX1,892 on the hourly chart, and also below its MA-200 at GBX1,951 on the daily timeframe. The Ichimoku Kijun level at GBX1,873 acts as immediate resistance. Momentum indicators are broadly negative: MACD is neutral, but ADX signals a sell, while RSI at 27.11 and CCI are both in oversold territory. Stoch RSI and Bull/Bear Power confirm a seller-dominated market, and the Awesome Oscillator continues to show strong negative momentum.

Downside risk elevated as support break threatens renewed momentum

In the short term, GSK is likely to trade within a range of GBX1,749 to GBX1,851, reflecting the current volatility band relative to recent levels. The probability of a move higher is very low, whereas additional downside risk remains elevated. A baseline scenario calls for sideways movement in this corridor, but a break below support could intensify downside momentum. Conversely, a bullish reversal would require a decisive move above resistance at the Ichimoku Kijun.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees GSK’s strong Q3 2026 earnings as confirmation of underlying business strength. He notes that the stock’s downside is amplified by profit pressure from restructuring and cautious EPS guidance. The technical setup is weak, with momentum and sentiment skewed to the downside, but dividend growth and robust specialty pharma sales support the long-term case. Karapetjanc believes any sustained upside now depends on the stock reclaiming key resistance levels. "If GSK can defend recent lows and reclaim the GBX1,873 area, we could see a constructive shift — but until then, I view weakness as an opportunity for selective accumulation."

Earlier, analysts noted that GSK was exhibiting a bearish technical structure despite solid earnings and a strengthened dividend, with mixed technical signals suggesting caution. The latest breakdown below key moving averages and clustering of oversold indicators now confirms that downside risks are heightened, making GBX1,749 an important support level for traders to monitor in the near term.
