TU Expert Verdict

Anton Kharitonov

Chief Analytics Officer

Charles Stanley Direct provides access to trading stocks, ETFs, funds, gilts, investment trusts, and commodities, serving UK residents through a web platform and mobile app. The broker is regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, with client investments protected up to GBP 85,000. No minimum deposit is required to open an account, and investors can choose between Investment Accounts, Flexible Stocks and Shares ISA, Junior ISA, and Self-Invested Personal Pensions. The broker offers free deposits and withdrawals, low commissions for fund investing, and several ready-made portfolios with varying risk levels.

Drawbacks include high trading fees on stocks and telephone orders, a platform fee structure that especially affects smaller portfolios, no leverage or margin trading, and lack of availability outside the UK. Additional disadvantages are that withdrawals are wire only and the mobile app supports stock trading only. Charles Stanley Direct may not be suitable for active traders seeking low-cost execution, non-UK residents, or those requiring leveraged products, but may appeal to UK-based investors focused on funds and regulated protection.
