Demand outlook strained as Lindt slashes prices and targets
Demand concerns weighed on cocoa after Lindt & Sprungli cut its chocolate prices for the second time this year and revised down its 2026 organic sales growth expectations, according to Tradingview. These actions by a major chocolate producer signal weakness in end-market demand, which can reduce cocoa purchases from manufacturers. This development adds to the headwinds for the cocoa market during the current session.
Bearish momentum prevails with oscillators signaling seller dominance
On the h1 chart, CC is trading below the MA-20 at $5,341 and MA-50 at $5,480, while remaining above the MA-200 at $4,646. The Ichimoku Kijun level at $5,326 serves as immediate resistance. Momentum indicators reinforce this bearish setup: RSI stands at 32.34 (Sell), MACD and ADX both point to further weakness, and the Awesome Oscillator confirms the negative trend. Additionally, CCI and Bull/Bear Power highlight oversold conditions and strong seller control, contrasting with a neutral Stoch RSI reading, suggesting some divergence among oscillators.
Downside continuation likely as upward reversal faces hurdles
In the short term, expectations for CC point to a consolidation range between $5,056 and $5,247, with typical volatility likely to be contained within this band. The probability of an upward reversal appears very low, while a continuation of downside is seen as very high. If price breaks the $5,326 resistance, a recovery may gain traction; however, failure of support at $5,056 could open a path for further declines.
Earlier, analysts noted that Nigerian cocoa processors, such as Johnvents highlighted their rising utilisation rates and working-capital needs in preparation for the main crop procurement season. The latest weakness in cocoa futures adds downside risk for producers in export-focused markets, making sustained support at $5,056 a critical level for near-term price stability.
