Woodland Park Zoo turns to Butterfly Network for emergency gorilla C-section support
Butterfly Network technology was used to assist clinicians and veterinarians during a rare emergency C-section performed on Olympia, a gorilla at Woodland Park Zoo.
The portable ultrasound device helped medical teams assess and support neonatal care for Olympia's newborn son. Both Olympia and her baby are reported to be doing well following the procedure, according to the company.
Butterfly Network has previously promoted its handheld ultrasound as a tool for fast on-field assessments of sports injuries, according to a recent article. The company also launched an iQ3 All-In Event featuring a $900 discount and extended warranty for early customers, as detailed in a separate report. These developments reflect ongoing efforts to broaden the adoption of portable ultrasound devices in various settings.
