Vitalik Buterin says Ethereum to integrate account abstraction in upcoming upgrade
Buterin modernizes Ethereum

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin said the account abstraction feature will become part of the protocol as part of the Hegota upgrade. According to him, the implementation could take place within a year.

The change centers on EIP-8141, a proposal that completes a concept discussed in the community since 2016. Until now, account abstraction has been implemented through external solutions, including ERC-4337, rather than being embedded directly into the base layer of the network.

How transaction jogic will change

“Now we finally have EIP-8141. It is a rule set that unifies and solves all the remaining issues that account abstraction was supposed to solve (and more),” Buterin wrote.

He describes the new model as “frame transactions.” A single operation can include multiple stages — validation, execution and, if necessary, contract deployment. These stages coordinate with each other and determine at the protocol level who authorizes the action and who pays the gas fee.

In practice, this means native support for multisignature wallets, changeable keys and future quantum-resistant signature schemes. Bundled actions, such as approving and then spending funds, could be executed within a single transaction without additional infrastructure.

The approach to fees would also change. Users would not be limited to paying gas in ETH — specialized contract mechanisms could convert other tokens into ETH in real time. Buterin has stressed that minimizing intermediaries is essential for Ethereum as a decentralized system.

The architecture also enables privacy-focused use cases, including zero-knowledge mechanisms and advanced nonce schemes. “In principle, the mechanism is extremely flexible and solves everything,” he noted.

What it means for the market

In the short term, rules governing how such transactions are propagated across the network will remain cautious to reduce risks of overload or abuse. Staking mechanisms for participants who cover gas fees are also under discussion.

The broader impact, however, is strategic. “Account abstraction also complements FOCIL well,” Buterin said, referring to Ethereum’s initiative aimed at improving transaction inclusion speed. Together, these upgrades could significantly improve transaction reliability.

If Hegota is delivered on schedule, Ethereum will gain a built-in smart account model without relying on workaround solutions. This could simplify DeFi interactions, reduce dependence on third-party services and make wallets easier to use for mainstream participants. Amid competition from Solana and other smart contract platforms, the move could become one of Ethereum’s most important technical upgrades in recent years.
