Litecoin gains as network activity lifts crypto market interest
Litecoin surges on strong activity

Litecoin is outperforming major cryptocurrencies as broader digital asset markets weaken and traders look for signs of resilience ahead of its next reward halving. The token rises nearly 8% over 24 hours to $66, its highest level since January, while monthly gains reach 37%, far ahead of bitcoin and other top coins.

Highlights

  • Litecoin's network processed over $1 billion in value, or 17 million LTC, in 24 hours, indicating stronger on-chain activity and increased utility.
  • Anticipation of Litecoin's fourth halving in July, reducing per-block rewards to 3.125 LTC, drives positioning and medium-term bullish sentiment.
  • Litecoin outperforms bitcoin, ETH, XRP, and SOL despite bitcoin's 3% daily drop, as derivatives inflows signal rising speculative and hedging interest.

Network usage and halving narrative support momentum

As reported by CoinDesk, Litecoin's latest advance comes as market participants focus on stronger on-chain activity and renewed interest in the token's medium-term supply cycle.

The Litecoin Foundation says more than $1 billion of value, or over 17 million Litecoin, moved across the network in 24 hours, describing that level of adjusted economic volume as a sign of rising on-chain activity and a growing use case. The foundation adds on X that while the figure is not the year's daily high, it still represents a large share of Litecoin's market capitalization.

Another possible driver is positioning ahead of Litecoin's fourth halving, due next July, when per-block rewards are set to fall to 3.125 LTC. Like bitcoin, Litecoin reduces block rewards by 50% every four years, and traders often watch whether prices bottom six to 12 months before the event and then move into a fresh bull run.

Derivatives inflows and wider market backdrop

The recent price rise is also accompanied by renewed capital inflows into derivatives linked to Litecoin, suggesting speculative and hedging activity is building alongside spot-market gains. Even so, it remains unclear whether the token can extend its rally consistently into the halving event.

Across the broader market, bitcoin falls 3% over 24 hours and is up 6% for the month, while ETH, XRP and SOL show a similar weaker profile relative to Litecoin. Alex Kuptsikevich, chief market analyst at The FxPro, says in an email that pressure from rising bond yields may prove temporary, arguing that a decline in bitcoin toward $70,000 may hurt short-term speculators without changing the longer-term bullish outlook.

Our earlier coverage of the surge in long-term U.S. Treasury yields explained how a global bond sell-off was lifting borrowing costs as investors repriced the outlook for inflation and potential Federal Reserve tightening. We noted that stronger economic data and energy-price pressures were pushing yields higher across major markets, adding a headwind for risk assets.
