Ripple expands Water.org partnership to scale water financing operations
Ripple boosts global water aid

After more than a year of collaboration, Ripple is broadening its work with Water.org as the nonprofit uses the company's payments, stablecoin and custody tools to move capital more efficiently across global programs. The expanded partnership comes after the groups say the infrastructure has already helped more than 1 million people gain access to safe water or sanitation financing across Latin America.

Highlights

  • Ripple committed $6 million over three years to Water.org, which also secured a $1.25 million RLUSD grant to expand services to Indonesia, the Philippines, and Uganda.
  • Ripple's payments and custody platform enabled over $3.2 million to move across four markets, cutting settlement times to same-day and transaction fees by up to 66%.
  • Ripple-backed Get Blue campaign enabled Water.org to reach 400,000 people in its first year and targets 1.2 million more through a three-year partnership.

Funding expansion and infrastructure rollout

As reported by Ripple in a press release, Water.org is expanding its use of Ripple Payments, Ripple USD, or RLUSD, and Ripple's custody technology to speed cross-border funding flows, lower transaction costs and support water and sanitation lending in more markets.

The nonprofit says Ripple Payments helps move money to its network of local financial institution partners more quickly and at lower cost. RLUSD serves as a digital settlement layer for WaterCredit disbursements, while Ripple's Wallet-as-a-Service platform is being added to manage digital assets as the program expands.

Ripple says its funding and payments infrastructure has already moved more than $3.2 million across four markets. In Mexico and Brazil, settlement times fell from two to three days to same-day, payment processing became available around the clock rather than through a single daily banking cutoff, and transaction fees dropped by as much as 66%.

To support the next phase, Ripple has committed $6 million to Water.org over three years. Water.org also received a $1.25 million RLUSD grant through the Stablecoin Impact Fund to expand stablecoin-enabled WaterCredit disbursements into Indonesia, the Philippines and Uganda.

Broader impact on water access and fintech aid

Water.org says the faster movement of capital is helping it extend affordable loans that allow households to install taps, toilets and piped water connections at home. The organization says this model is aimed at turning regular household spending on water into longer-term access to basic sanitation and water infrastructure.

Beyond the direct partnership, Ripple is also allocating capital through the WaterEquity Everspring Fund, a perpetual impact vehicle designed to use philanthropic money to unlock commercial investment in water and sanitation lending across emerging markets. As loans are repaid, the capital is recycled into new lending, extending the reach of the original funding.

Ripple has also joined Get Blue, Water.org's campaign that brings together brands, creators, artists and consumers to support household water access, as the exclusive digital asset and FinTech partner. Founding partners named by Water.org include Gap, Amazon, Starbucks and Ecolab, and the first year of Ripple-backed Get Blue funding has helped Water.org reach 400,000 people, with the three-year commitment expected to support 1.2 million more as the nonprofit works toward its goal of reaching 200 million people by 2030.

In our earlier article on SEON’s expansion in the Philippines, we covered how the fraud prevention firm is aiming to broaden its client base beyond fintech to include traditional banks, remittance providers, and payments businesses. The piece highlighted SEON’s partnership with Exist Software Labs as a route to local market data and relationships, as rising digital transactions and tighter rules increase demand for stronger fraud and risk controls.
