Highlights

  • CAD/JPY trades below its 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages, showing persistent downward pressure across timeframes.
  • All key momentum indicators are negative or oversold, with sellers controlling intraday activity and the market outlook classified as oversold.
  • The expected five-day range is ¥109.46 to ¥113.82, with over 80% probability of a downward move and limited chance of an upside breakout.
Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, sees CAD/JPY's intraday rebound as short-lived amid a prevailing bearish technical setup. He notes that the pair remains firmly below its 20-, 50-, and 200-day moving averages, confirming sustained seller dominance. Kharitonov highlights the deeply oversold momentum readings, with both RSI and CCI at extreme lows, but argues that such signals alone do not negate downside risks. He finds the absence of supportive news catalysts concerning, emphasizing that volatility stems chiefly from technical oversold conditions, not genuine market confidence. "Traders should treat any bounces with caution — CAD/JPY lacks both fundamental and sentiment-driven support to sustain a recovery," Kharitonov warns.
Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, identifies opportunities within CAD/JPY's recent intraday rebound. He views the oversold status as a positive setup for potential bargain hunters. Karapetjanc believes that with the pair trading near key support at ¥111.01 and volatility elevated, the market offers multiple setups for agile participants. Despite the lack of fresh news, he expects renewed buying interest if the ceiling at ¥111.83 breaks. "The bullish structure can reassert itself swiftly — further growth toward ¥113.82 is on the table if technical barriers are overcome," Karapetjanc states.
Parshwa Turakhiya, analyst, observes mixed short-term signals in CAD/JPY. He notes sentiment remains pressured but also flags the oversold readings across several momentum indicators. Turakhiya sees a possible corrective bounce from current lows, but warns that bearish momentum still lingers. "Traders may find tactical opportunities near ¥111.01, yet caution is key as downside scenarios remain in play," Turakhiya advises.

Bearish technical structure as indicators underscore downside momentum

CAD/JPY is trading below its 20-day, 50-day, and 200-day moving averages (¥114.51, ¥114.57, and ¥114.82 respectively), indicating continued pressure from sellers across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons. The near-term ceiling is set at ¥111.83, while the floor is at ¥111.01, with additional trend resistance confirmed by the Ichimoku Kijun level (¥113.51). The broader bearish alignment between the 50-day and 200-day averages underscores the prevailing downward structure. Momentum indicators remain negative, as the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) signals sell, accompanied by a neutral outlook from the Average Directional Index (ADX) at 17.91. Both the Relative Strength Index (RSI) at 25.72 and the Commodity Channel Index (CCI) at -228.86 indicate the pair is oversold, and the Stochastic RSI reading of 0 reinforces this condition. Bull/Bear Power (BBP) at -0.85 shows sellers dominate intraday, and the forecast is also oversold. The pair advanced to ¥111.64, gaining 0.51% or 0.5653 units, after opening nearly flat. It is currently trading near the day's high. Intraday volatility stands at 0.74%. The tone into mid-session reflects persistent upside momentum, even as oscillators highlight lingering bearish pressure and possible corrective risk.

Earlier, analysts noted that CAD/JPY was under persistent bearish pressure, with technical signals favoring continued weakness and rangebound trading. The current analysis reinforces this bearish outlook with fresh evidence of sustained downside risk, as oversold conditions and dominant sellers suggest heightened sensitivity to a potential break below the ¥111.01 support level.
