Funding targets rural training needs

As reported by U.S. Department of Labor, citing the Employment and Training Administration, the seventh round of Workforce Opportunity for Rural Communities funding is allocating $81,542,854 to projects in 11 states. The grants are designed to address workforce needs in predominantly rural areas and help employers in high-growth and emerging industries compete more effectively while supporting residents seeking family-sustaining jobs.

The initiative is administered by the Labor Department’s Employment and Training Administration in partnership with the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Delta Regional Authority and the Northern Border Regional Commission. Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling says the grants are intended to expand pathways into in-demand jobs and strengthen supply chains.

The funded programs include industry-driven training and Registered Apprenticeships for new and dislocated workers, as well as people already employed who need new skills. Target sectors include skilled trades and construction, healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, domestic energy production, and business and professional services.

Our earlier article on SME Corp Malaysia’s Sinar programme explained how the initiative helps micro, small and medium enterprises cope with supply chain disruptions and rising operating costs by improving access to financing and business support. It noted that 1,204 MSMEs had benefited as of 30 September, alongside broader Budget 2027 allocations aimed at MSME development through financing, automation, market access and human-capital measures.
