SpaceX weighs historic IPO amid surging valuations
SpaceX IPO talks resurface as valuation expectations surge

Elon Musk’s SpaceX is considering a potential initial public offering as early as mid-June, targeting a fundraising of up to $50 billion at a valuation of roughly $1.5 trillion.

If confirmed, the listing would rank among the largest IPOs in history and place SpaceX in rare territory previously occupied only by Saudi Aramco, reports Yahoo Finance.

The company was most recently valued at about $800 billion in a secondary share sale, underscoring how quickly investor expectations have escalated. Reuters has not independently verified the report, and SpaceX has declined to comment. Talks with existing private investors about a possible 2026 IPO have reportedly been ongoing since December. The shift comes despite Musk’s long-stated preference to keep SpaceX private.

Starlink success and investor demand drive momentum

People familiar with the matter say SpaceX’s growing valuation and the commercial success of its Starlink satellite-internet business are key factors behind the reconsideration of an IPO. Investor interest in space companies has surged, driven by rising government demand for satellite imaging, data and communications, alongside expanding commercial use cases.

Space technology remains a relatively closed sector, which has only heightened its appeal for investors seeking exposure to long-term growth themes. SpaceX is reportedly lining up four major Wall Street banks to take leading roles in a potential listing. Analysts say the company’s dominant position in launch services and satellite connectivity makes it a uniquely attractive public-market candidate. A public debut would also give investors rare direct access to the space economy at scale.

Mega-listings return as equity markets reopen

A SpaceX IPO would come as U.S. equity capital markets show signs of revival after several subdued years marked by volatility and geopolitical uncertainty. Market activity began rebounding in 2025, and bankers now expect a wave of large technology listings. Artificial intelligence leaders such as Anthropic and OpenAI are also reportedly laying early groundwork for future IPOs. Together, these companies could define a new cycle of mega-listings centered on frontier technologies. For SpaceX, a public offering would not only raise capital but also formalize its status as one of the world’s most valuable companies. The move would signal that investor appetite for transformational, capital-intensive businesses is firmly back.
