Budget hearing centers on foreign policy priorities
As reported by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mast opens the full committee hearing by thanking the secretary for appearing before lawmakers and says members are eager to begin questioning on the FY 2027 State Department budget request.He says the administration has remained engaged with Congress, citing 30 briefings to the full committee, subcommittees, roundtables and other sessions during the current Congress. Mast also highlights more than 20 briefings involving the secretary, General Kaine, Director Ratcliffe, Secretary Hegseth and others since the start of Operation Epic Fury.
Iran and Western Hemisphere agenda shape debate
Mast uses his remarks to defend current U.S. policy toward Iran, saying the country has threatened and attacked Americans for decades and referencing more than 350 attacks in the 30 months before Operation Epic Fury. He argues the administration is taking stronger action against Tehran and contrasts that approach with criticism from Democratic lawmakers.He also praises the State Department's efforts in the Western Hemisphere, pointing to work on relations with Panama, Cuba and Venezuela.
