Us dollar vs krone rises 1.08% today

US Dollar vs Norwegian Krone (USD/NOK) advanced 1.08% as technical momentum drove intraday buying interest in the absence of fresh news catalysts. The strength of the move looks limited, with price trading below the 20-day moving average and persistent short-term resistance shaping near-term risk.

Highlights

  • USD/NOK faces short-term resistance but maintains a bullish medium- and long-term structure above key support levels.
  • Momentum indicators show oversold conditions with bearish intraday signals, despite price strength toward the daily high.
  • USD/NOK is expected to trade between kr9.5694 and kr9.771 over the next five days, with a 70% probability of a downward move.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, views the recent USD/NOK advance as technically driven and lacking real momentum, with no positive news flow to support sustained upside. He notes the pair trades below its 20-day moving average while intraday indicators show mixed signals and persistent selling pressure. Kharitonov singles out the negative readings from momentum oscillators and the negative Bull/Bear Power as warning flags for bulls. With volatility present but resistance holding, he sees sellers still in control short term. "A failed attempt to break kr9.6727 resistance and negative momentum signals suggest USD/NOK will struggle to hold gains in coming sessions," Kharitonov warns.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, highlights the underlying bullish structure as USD/NOK maintains positions above the 50- and 200-day averages. He emphasizes that consolidation near current levels supports the case for further growth if resistance at kr9.6727 breaks. Karapetjanc sees strong medium- and long-term potential, reinforced by intraday volatility hinting at new opportunities. "With the bullish trend structure intact, any push above kr9.6727 could unlock the next stage toward kr9.771," Karapetjanc asserts.

Mixed momentum signals amid resistance below short-term average

USD/NOK remains capped below the 20-day moving average at kr9.706, but trades above its 50-day (kr9.6429) and 200-day (kr9.6288) levels, reflecting ongoing short-term resistance but preserving a bullish medium- and long-term trend structure. The near-term ceiling is at kr9.6727, with support at kr9.6429. Momentum signals are clouded by pronounced divergence: MACD issues a sell signal, the ADX points to a strengthening trend, and the RSI at 38.67—along with the Stochastic RSI and CCI—signals oversold conditions. Negative Bull/Bear Power and a bearish Awesome Oscillator highlight seller dominance intraday, yet price action pushes toward the daily high after opening flat, showing intraday volatility of 1.10%.

In a recent review, analysts highlighted that despite intermittent rebounds, USD/NOK was exhibiting persistent downside pressure amid bearish momentum signals and resistance from sellers. The current advance, while maintaining the pair’s broader trend support, underscores that failure to clear resistance at kr9.6727 could leave USD/NOK vulnerable to a renewed downside test toward kr9.5694 over the coming sessions.
