MEMX options unit sets final pre-launch test and fee change ahead of MX2 debut
MX2 Options launch nears

MEMX is outlining final operational and regulatory steps before the launch of MX2 Options in mid-September 2026. The exchange is scheduling a last production test for September 12 while also highlighting market maker obligations, order origin coding rules and a transaction fee update that took effect on September 1.

Highlights

  • MX2 Options will conduct its final pre-launch production test on Saturday, September 12, 2026, covering all series scheduled for launch on September 14, 2026.
  • MEMX issued regulatory notices to MX2 members clarifying the Continuous Quoting Obligation, 25%/75% Obligation, and requirements for account origin recording per Rule 20.7.
  • Effective September 1, 2026, MEMX will increase rebates for non-penny options customer capacity liquidity-adding executions, pending SEC filing.

Launch preparations and rule reminders

As reported by MEMX, MX2 Options is hosting its final pre-launch production test on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with the symbol directory for the UAT test set to be available on the morning of the session. The test covers all series in the underliers that MX2 is due to launch on Monday, September 14, 2026.

MEMX is also issuing regulatory notices to MX2 members on rules that apply specifically to options market makers. Those notices cover the Continuous Quoting Obligation, the 25%/75% Obligation, and the circumstances in which a MEMX options market maker can request an excused withdrawal from continuous quoting requirements.

A separate notice reminds members of MX2 Options that they must record the appropriate account origin code when accepting orders electronically, by telephone or in person. MEMX says failure to obtain and record the correct account origin may violate MX2 Rule 20.7, and adds that clearing members and member organizations should ensure staff collect the information needed for proper execution and clearing, including user capacity, customer identification and account identification where required.

Fee update and market impact

Effective Tuesday, September 1, 2026, MEMX is implementing a change to MEMX Options transaction fees, subject to filing with the SEC. The exchange says it is increasing the rebate for executions that add liquidity in non-penny options made in the customer capacity.

The updates indicate MEMX is using the period immediately before the MX2 Options launch to finalize both trading readiness and compliance procedures. For market participants, the combination of testing, rule clarification and pricing changes signals the operational framework members need to follow as the new options venue begins trading.

In our earlier article, we noted that Bloom’s shares jumped sharply alongside a spike in implied volatility, with traders piling into short-dated calls as speculation intensified relative to other energy names.
