Amazon opens temporary stores to showcase South African entrepreneurs
Amazon South Africa has announced the launch of temporary physical stores under the Shop Mzansi brand, timed to coincide with South Africa’s Heritage Day.
Shop Mzansi, introduced shortly after the opening of Amazon.co.za, serves as a dedicated storefront for local products — a move that Amazon says demonstrates its commitment to supporting South African small businesses.
According to MyBroadband, the stores will showcase a carefully curated selection of locally made goods from South African entrepreneurs.
Offline expansion and promotional campaign
Shoppers will be able to interact directly with sellers, experience the products firsthand, and learn the stories behind these local businesses.
“Heritage Month is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the incredible creativity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit of South African entrepreneurs,” said Robert Koen, Amazon’s Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa.
The pop-up stores will be open at Mall of Africa near Johannesburg (September 18–21) and at Tyger Valley Centre near Cape Town (September 24–28).
Each store will feature ten selected Shop Mzansi sellers. The spaces will host interactive product demonstrations, storytelling opportunities for vendors, and promotional activities such as app download incentives and special offers for new Amazon customers.
