U.S. taxpayers are receiving higher refunds this season, with the average refund staying about $350 above last year's average. Erica York highlights that this trend continues the usual pattern of small week-over-week declines in tax refund values.
So far, total refunds have risen by $23 billion, showing a significant increase in overall tax refund payouts.
Last week, Erica York reported that the average U.S. tax refund was $352 higher than the previous year, despite a $53 weekly decline to $3,623. Total refunds at that stage were up nearly $20 billion compared to 2023, according to her previous data. York has also covered persistent cost pressures facing U.S. manufacturers from tariffs, with input prices reported as elevated but stable.
