Ian Bremmer states that Iran is willing to stop charging tolls for maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, provided it can continue to monetize its strategic position in other ways.

According to Ian Bremmer, Iran has launched the Hormuz Safe Insurance Platform, a new offering that allows participating countries to pay in cryptocurrency. Several countries have already signed up for the platform. However, Ian Bremmer notes that this move will not be acceptable to the U.S.

Earlier this year, Ian Bremmer reported that inflation in the U.S. reached its highest level since 2023 following a closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The strait remains a key chokepoint for global energy shipments. Bremmer’s latest remarks follow repeated concerns about the region’s impact on global markets.
