Bloomberg Philanthropies is launching a $90 million initiative to provide high school students in the U.S. with access to training for in-demand auto technician jobs.

Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg announced the new program during a visit to Detroit, where he met with Ford CEO Jim Farley and students involved in technical training. The initiative aims to create more opportunities for the next generation of American workers in the rapidly evolving automotive sector.

Earlier this year, Mike Bloomberg called for stronger action from U.S. leaders to address gun violence and community safety. He also appeared at a New York City benefit event supporting the revival of Cats on Broadway supporting the arts.
