EU introduces duties on e-commerce parcels

Ursula von der Leyen announces that, starting today, customs duties will apply to e-commerce parcels valued up to €150 entering the EU.

Von der Leyen highlights that 30 million Europeans work in retail, making it the largest private-sector employer on the continent. She notes the growing challenge posed by low-value online imports, stating these imports have put retailers in the region at an unfair disadvantage.

Von der Leyen has recently announced several international agreements. She confirmed a €150 million loan for the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor in a series of EU-Kazakhstan deals. Earlier this year, she detailed €1.5 billion in support for Egypt's reform agenda in Europe's 2024 partnership with Egypt.
