Willem Middelkoop: Rio Tinto reports 7% drop in copper output on unplanned outage
Rio Tinto copper output drops 7 percent

Willem Middelkoop, founder, investor, commodity fund manager at Commodity Discovery Fund, reports that Rio Tinto's copper output declined 7% in the second quarter compared to the previous quarter due to an unplanned smelter outage at the company's Kennecott operation in Utah.

The company expects the impact of this disruption to last about six months.

Middelkoop has recently noted central banks' plans to shift reserves, highlighting efforts to reduce dollar holdings in favor of gold. Earlier this year, he reported on AYA's 61 percent year-to-date increase in Q2 silver production following a site visit in Morocco. Middelkoop continues to track developments in metals and commodities production.
