IMF backs Lebanon on reform steps

Kristalina Georgieva, managing director at IMF, reaffirmed the Fund's support for Lebanon after meeting with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

She congratulated the prime minister on recent reform progress, noting it has advanced Lebanon toward a new Fund program. Georgieva stated that implementing a Gap Law and a medium-term fiscal framework is crucial to restoring stability and creating growth foundations in the country.

Georgieva has previously noted that rising food prices from conflict force governments to make tough fiscal choices, according to an earlier statement at the IMF (link). She has also discussed economy, finance, and climate topics in joint talks with World Bank officials (link). These engagements highlight her ongoing focus on fiscal policy and international cooperation.
