Scott Bessent: U.S. economy produces 26 percent of global nominal GDP
U.S. generates 26 percent of global GDP

Scott Bessent, 79th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and founder of Key Square Group, states that under U.S. President Donald Trump, the U.S. is demonstrating strong economic growth to the world.

He points out that with only around 4 percent of the world’s population, the U.S. generates 26 percent of global nominal GDP, leads G20 nations in productivity, and is home to more than 60 of the 100 most valuable companies globally.

Bessent has previously reported that the U.S. Treasury and IRS have issued guidance targeting tax-driven investment strategies and prearranged section 351 transactions here. He has also pointed to the creation of over one million private-sector jobs since January 2025 and a declining federal workforce here. These developments have contributed to ongoing discussion about U.S. economic momentum.
