U.S. GDP growth peaks after recessions

Ernie Tedeschi pointed out that the two fastest periods of four-quarter real GDP growth in U.S. post-World War II history occurred as bouncebacks from recessions, specifically in the fourth quarter of 1950 and the second quarter of 2021. He added that the 1950 period was also boosted by the Korean War and noted that in both cases, the growth rates were still well below 17%.

Tedeschi has previously analyzed the impact of sector contributions, noting that computers and software add 25 basis points to core PCE inflation. He has also highlighted regional disparities, stating that California consistently posts stronger GDP and productivity growth rates than the U.S.. These observations add context to his commentary on historic periods of accelerated economic expansion.
