BT Group shares lose momentum after breaking below major moving averages
BT Group remains under pressure after breaking below GBX 200, while the absence of new corporate catalysts is increasing the influence of the technical setup. For now the risk of a decline toward GBX 191 remains elevated.
The news flow around BT Group has remained relatively quiet in early August, leaving short-term price action increasingly driven by technical factors and the market’s reaction to key levels.
Investors continue to assess already known factors, including the execution of BT’s strategy, Openreach development, cost reductions, and the company’s ability to support further cash flow growth.

Failure to reclaim GBX 200 raises downside risk
The previously outlined scenario did not materialize. BT-A failed to hold above GBX 198 and eventually broke below both the 50-day and 200-day SMAs.The GBX 200 level now becomes the key threshold. If the shares fail to reclaim this level during today’s or the next trading session, the probability of a further decline toward support at GBX 191 will increase noticeably.
A return and sustained move above GBX 200 would improve the short-term structure. In that case, the first target would be GBX 210, while a broader recovery could bring GBX 220 back into focus.
Recovery attempts continue to lose momentum
BT-A’s recovery remains difficult. Attempts to establish a sustainable bullish impulse continue to lose strength quickly, a pattern that has been visible since late May 2026.
Until the shares can reclaim key technical levels and sustain gains for several sessions, recovery attempts are likely to remain unstable.
