Bitcoin rally gains pace as Clarity Act push lifts crypto markets
Bitcoin surge after Clarity Act

Crypto markets are rebounding as investors reassess the odds of U.S. market structure legislation advancing later this year. Bitcoin is trading at its highest level since June after a White House push on the Clarity Act added to a broader risk-asset rally and a wave of short covering.

Highlights

  • Bitcoin surges over 5% on Thursday to just below $72,000, extending a two-day rally to 11% and reaching its highest level since June 1.
  • White House meeting with top crypto executives and President Trump sparks renewed optimism for the Clarity Act ahead of the critical Sept. 15 Senate vote.
  • Rally in crypto assets sees Coinbase and Circle up about 6% each and Strategy rising more than 9% premarket, driven by $2.7 billion in short liquidations and falling Treasury yields.

White House lobbying effort sharpens focus on September vote

As reported by CNBC, the latest move in bitcoin gathers momentum after the White House hosts executives from Coinbase, Kraken, Robinhood, Ripple and ChainLink for a last-minute meeting in which President Donald Trump urges Congress to pass what he calls a fair version of the Clarity Act before year-end.

Trump says the bill would help keep the U.S. ahead of China and support a new wave of innovation, while his call for a fair version highlights a central dispute in Washington. Democrats are pushing for stronger ethics rules to stop the president and other public officials from personally profiting from crypto, while Republicans oppose provisions they see as too restrictive or too narrowly targeted.

The legislation is widely viewed by investors as a potential turning point for the sector after the crypto downturn that began last fall. Market expectations had weakened after the Senate left for its August recess without a vote, and a failure to clear the chamber's first procedural vote on Sept. 15 could effectively end the bill's chances this year as attention shifts toward the midterm elections.

Bitcoin jump lifts crypto shares and revives sector optimism

Bitcoin rises more than 5% on Thursday to just below $72,000, taking its two-day gain to more than 11% after trading around $63,000 earlier in the week. The advance leaves the token at its highest level since June 1, although it remains about 43% below its October 2025 peak of roughly $126,000.

Crypto-linked stocks also move higher, with Coinbase and Circle up about 6% each and Strategy gaining more than 9% in premarket trading. The rally begins on Wednesday when Treasury yields pull back sharply, easing pressure on risk assets, and it is later amplified by a large short squeeze that leads to about $2.7 billion in crypto short liquidations, according to CoinGlass.

The White House meeting also comes ahead of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting on Thursday, adding another policy marker for traders watching regulation. For the industry, the combination of easing macro pressure and revived hopes for legislative clarity is helping restore momentum across digital assets.

Trump’s push for a “fair” version of the Clarity Act after a White House meeting with crypto executives fueled a rebound across digital assets, with Bitcoin moving above $70,000 and crypto-related equities jumping. Our earlier coverage highlighted that investors are treating the bill as a potential regulatory turning point, even as ethical concerns and political divisions in Washington continue to complicate its path through Congress.
