Charlie Shrem is an American Bitcoin entrepreneur, investor, and podcast host known for his involvement in the early cryptocurrency industry. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1989, he studied economics and finance at Brooklyn College. In 2011, he co-founded BitInstant, one of the earliest services facilitating Bitcoin purchases and transactions. The company attracted investment and became an important part of Bitcoin's early infrastructure. In 2012, Shrem helped establish the Bitcoin Foundation and served as its first Vice Chairman. His career was interrupted by legal proceedings related to unlicensed money transmission, resulting in a prison sentence that he served before returning to the cryptocurrency industry.

Following his release, Shrem worked with cryptocurrency businesses, including Jaxx and CryptoIQ, and developed a career in investing and media. In 2021, he co-founded Druid Ventures, an early-stage cryptocurrency investment fund focused on blockchain infrastructure, privacy, scalability, and interoperability.
