September metrics point to active fundraising

As reported by the Canadian Securities Exchange, trading volume in CSE-listed securities totaled 1.1 billion shares in September 2026, while trading value reached $376 million. The exchange also said it added five new company listings and one fundamental change of business for an existing issuer during the month.

The September figures, released on October 16 in Toronto, show the exchange's listed base stood at 739 securities as of September 30, 2026. The monthly data indicates fundraising remained a key area of activity across the market.

Mining and life sciences support year-to-date momentum

Richard Carleton, CEO of the CSE, says September is marked by a substantial uptick in the total value of financings for CSE-listed companies, driven by significant equity financings by BetterLife Pharma Inc. and Avanti Gold Corp. He adds that equity financings on the exchange total about $1.7 billion year to date, exceeding any full-year result since 2021.

Carleton says mining and life sciences are showing particular strength, suggesting those sectors are helping sustain capital markets activity on the Canadian venue. The September update points to continued financing momentum even as trading values remain below the scale of larger North American exchanges.

Our earlier report on Q3 2026 cybersecurity fundraising showed investor appetite remained strong, with global cybersecurity and privacy startups raising $6.8 billion as larger late-stage rounds lifted totals even while transaction counts fell. We also noted that AI-focused and identity security companies attracted a disproportionate share of capital and that ongoing M&A activity added momentum despite a sluggish IPO backdrop.
