Supply fears escalate as El Niño disrupts crop output
Cocoa futures on ICE have surged to their highest level in about a month as adverse El Niño-linked weather in key growing regions disrupts supply, according to TradingView. These challenging climatic conditions threaten crop yields, sparking concerns over potential shortfalls in global cocoa production. As a result, traders have responded with increased buying activity, reflecting heightened sensitivity to agricultural supply shocks in the current environment.
Overbought signals rise as momentum shifts and support holds
On the technical front, CC holds above the MA-20 and MA-50 on the H4 chart, and remains well above the MA-200 on the daily timeframe. The Ichimoku Kijun sits at $5,691, providing immediate support. Momentum readings show mixed signals: MACD is in buy mode, while ADX is neutral. RSI also signals a buy but approaches overbought territory, with both CCI and Stochastic RSI firmly overbought. Bull/Bear Power remains in overbought conditions, indicating ongoing buyer dominance amid high volatility. However, the prevalence of overbought oscillators suggests increased risk of a near-term pullback.
Range-bound trading expected as breakout probabilities shift
In the short term, the projected trading range for CC is between $5,603 and $5,984, with typical volatility relative to current levels. The baseline scenario anticipates continued sideways movement within this band, with a 68% probability of the upward trend resuming. Should resistance break to the upside, a further rally is possible, while a decisive move below support at $5,691 could trigger a deeper pullback.
Earlier, analysts noted that cocoa's uptrend was supported by improving supply stability in key producing regions and strong technical signals, but cautioned that momentum appeared stretched. The current market action introduces heightened supply risks due to adverse weather, shifting focus toward volatility and crop yield concerns, with key support at $5,691 now serving as a pivotal level for near-term price direction.
