Broadcom, together with founding members AMD, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA, and OpenAI, has introduced the Optical Compute Interconnect Multi-Source Agreement to the public.
The open industry specification is designed to accelerate the scaling of artificial intelligence infrastructure by delivering high-bandwidth, power-efficient optical technology. With participation from several of the most prominent technology players, the agreement aims to establish a standard that supports the rapid evolution and deployment of advanced AI systems.
The formation of this industry-wide agreement signals a pivotal moment in the AI infrastructure landscape, reinforcing the drive for scalable, high-efficiency optical technologies. These developments build on Broadcom's ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity, as demonstrated by initiatives such as the launch of the 400G per lane Taurus BCM83640 to advance 1.6T AI networks and the introduction of VMware Telco Cloud Platform 9 to boost AI monetization across telecom operators.
