Ouster debuts Rev8 native color

Ouster, Inc. has enhanced its lidar technology by introducing native color to its point cloud data with the Rev8 release.

According to the company, each Ouster frame now functions as a structured two-dimensional image, where every pixel offers comprehensive data fields such as range, signal, reflectivity, and near-infrared, alongside the newly added native color information. This advancement allows for faster diagnostics and improved detection of weak signals across observed regions, further streamlining analysis for industrial and mobility applications.

Ouster recently expanded its BlueCity lidar deployment in Utah, extending coverage to nearly 300 intersections as its stock slipped 2.9% to $42.13 earlier this year. The company has also positioned its lidar sensors as a more effective tool for crowd density tracking compared to traditional camera systems in previous product updates. Both moves reflect ongoing efforts to broaden the use of its lidar technology across industrial and urban environments.
