Ouster unveils smaller sensor spot

Ouster has announced the Rev8 OS1 Max, a new generation of sensor with a spot size up to 50 percent smaller than its predecessor. The tighter beam is designed to improve the capture of thin objects from drones, such as power lines, wires, or bare branches against the ground.

With this release, Ouster aims to enhance precision and detection capabilities in drone-based applications where identifying slim and hard-to-capture objects is vital.

Earlier this year, Ouster introduced a feature in Ouster Studio that enables instant 3D maps from lidar files, eliminating the need for an external SLAM pipeline, according to company announcements. The firm has also expanded its technology to offer on-sensor 3D zone monitoring, supporting up to 128 customizable areas with real-time triggers, as detailed in a prior release. These updates reflect Ouster's ongoing efforts to broaden lidar applications through targeted software and hardware enhancements.
