Polkadot launches Blockchain Academy for politicians
In April, the Polkadot Blockchain Academy (PBA) will hold its first educational course designed specifically for politicians, aiming to equip lawmakers with a deeper understanding of blockchain technology and Web3.
The three-day course, "Blockchain Fundamentals for Policymakers," will take place from April 6 to 8, 2025, in Zug, Switzerland, a city known as "Crypto Valley" due to its blockchain-friendly regulations.
According to Cointelegraph, the program will be conducted for UK Members of Parliament (MPs) from major political parties, led by Lisa Cameron, founder of the UKUS Crypto Alliance and a UK MP from 2015 to 2024.
"The first Polkadot Blockchain Academy course provides MPs with a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insights into real-world Web3 applications," said Cameron.
She emphasized that the course comes at a crucial time for the growth of the UK’s crypto sector, making it essential for policymakers to be well-informed about blockchain in order to make sound legislative decisions.
Tackling Blockchain Illiteracy
Chrissy Hill, Chief Legal Officer and Interim Chief Operating Officer of Parity Technologies, who will also attend the course, believes that educating regulators is key to the future growth of the crypto industry.
"Policymakers play a crucial role in shaping blockchain’s future, yet they have historically lacked access to structured education on its technical and regulatory foundations," Hill noted.
The Polkadot Blockchain Academy aims to bridge this gap by ensuring that decision-makers have the necessary resources to develop practical policies that foster innovation while maintaining security measures.
The April seminar in Zug marks the first step in Polkadot's global initiative, with similar events planned for other key jurisdictions in the future.
