Bitcoin surges above $75,000 as ETF inflows accelerate
Bitcoin extended its sharp rebound on Friday, climbing above $75,000 as renewed demand through U.S. spot exchange-traded funds added momentum to the cryptocurrency market. Heavy institutional trading and widespread liquidations of bearish positions helped accelerate the advance after a volatile stretch for digital assets.
Highlights
- Bitcoin climbed above $75,000, extending a roughly 17% two-day rebound.
- Spot Bitcoin ETF volume exceeded $5.3 billion.
- ETF net inflows reached $517.19 million, led by BlackRock IBIT.
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs generated more than $5.3 billion in trading volume, while net inflows reached $517.19 million, their strongest daily level since May 4, Coinpedia reports. BlackRock IBIT dominated trading activity and also attracted the largest share of fresh capital, strengthening signs that institutional investors are returning to Bitcoin.
ETF money returns
Bitcoin traded around $75,435, up 3.33%, according to the latest market data. The advance extended a two-day rally of roughly 17%, during which the cryptocurrency added about $12,000 and more than $220 billion to its market capitalization.
BlackRock IBIT generated $4.44 billion of the ETF trading volume, well ahead of Fidelity FBTC at $438 million and Grayscale products at $208.8 million. The remaining activity was spread across funds managed by Bitwise, ARK Invest, VanEck, Morgan Stanley, Franklin Templeton, Invesco, Valkyrie, WisdomTree, and Hashdex.
Fresh capital also moved into the products. Of the $517.19 million in net inflows, BlackRock IBIT attracted $284.7 million, ARK and 21Shares ARKB received $77.7 million, and Fidelity FBTC added $62.4 million. Eight of the 12 spot Bitcoin ETFs finished the session with positive flows.
The rapid price increase also caught leveraged bearish traders off guard. More than $3.6 billion in Bitcoin short positions were liquidated over 72 hours, including $2.75 billion on Wednesday. Forced buying to close those positions added further momentum to the rally.
Treasury shift adds fuel
The rebound coincided with a change in U.S. Treasury debt operations. The Treasury Department said it would at least double liquidity-support buybacks of longer-dated nominal coupon securities in the 10- to 30-year sector after long-term borrowing costs climbed sharply.
Lower long-term yields can improve conditions for risk assets, while the accompanying weakness in the dollar provides another supportive backdrop for Bitcoin. The market also reacted to renewed cryptocurrency policy activity in Washington, including regulatory developments and engagement between the Trump administration and crypto industry executives.
The combination of macroeconomic conditions, ETF demand, and short covering created an unusually powerful near-term catalyst for Bitcoin.
Institutional demand faces its next test
The scale of ETF activity matters because it offers a measure of demand beyond leveraged crypto trading. More than $5.3 billion in turnover and over $500 million in net inflows indicate that regulated investment products played a substantial role as Bitcoin recovered.
The next test is whether those flows persist after the short squeeze loses momentum. Bitcoin remains sensitive to Treasury yields, dollar movements, and U.S. regulatory policy, leaving the durability of the rebound dependent on more than the initial burst of institutional buying.
