IB launches ETH staking

Interactive Brokers is broadening its digital asset offering by adding cryptocurrency staking for eligible clients through its Client Portal. The service launches with Ethereum only, and staking rewards are credited as additional staked ETH, allowing returns to compound while holdings remain staked.

Highlights

  • Interactive Brokers launched Ethereum staking for eligible clients through Zerohash, allowing rewards in additional staked ETH and compound growth.
  • Clients can now access staking via the Client Portal, expanding on earlier crypto features and mirroring the firm's Stock Yield Enhancement Program for equity accounts.
  • In early 2025, Interactive Brokers introduced 24/7 account funding using USDC, furthering its push into round-the-clock digital asset trading and services.

Ethereum staking launch through Zerohash

As reported by The Block, Interactive Brokers is extending its crypto platform beyond trading and transfers by introducing staking for eligible clients. The new service is initially limited to Ethereum, with crypto infrastructure firm Zerohash providing the underlying staking services.

Clients can access the feature through the broker's Client Portal. Rewards are paid in additional staked ETH, which means balances can grow further through compounding as long as the assets stay staked.

In a release, Chief Executive Officer Milan Galik says the offering is designed to help clients generate more value from digital assets they already hold. He compares the feature with the firm's Stock Yield Enhancement Program, which lets clients earn additional income on shares in their accounts.

Broader push in digital asset services

Interactive Brokers entered crypto trading in 2021 and has continued to widen that business. In early 2025, the brokerage added new capabilities, including 24/7 account funding using USDC in January to support round-the-clock trading.

The move adds another income-oriented product to the broker's crypto lineup as established financial firms continue to test deeper involvement in digital assets. Morgan Stanley has also reportedly sought a national trust bank charter that would allow it to custody digital assets and offer staking and trading services to investment clients.

Our earlier coverage of Citigroup’s third-quarter earnings described a sharp year-on-year profit increase, supported by growth in services and wealth management fees alongside higher investment banking and trading revenue versus the prior year. The report also noted a tougher sequential trading backdrop and highlighted Citi’s ongoing restructuring, including plans related to its Banamex stake, as Wall Street banks navigate volatile markets and elevated interest rates.
