Fed remarks and token gains drive risk appetite
As reported by CoinDesk, Bitcoin rises 1.5% to just under $83,900 in Wednesday Asian trading after New York Fed President John Williams says he sees no need for further rate increases in 2027, a view that weakens the dollar and supports risk assets.Zcash leads gains among major cryptocurrencies, climbing nearly 7% to about $1,270. Solana and Dogecoin each add 2.5%, while Ether rises 2% to about $2,520. XRP, BNB and HYPE gain between 1% and 2%, while TRX trails with an advance of less than 1%.
Williams does say one more rate hike this year may be appropriate. Even so, his comments help the S&P 500 trim Tuesday losses, while S&P 500 futures rise 0.2% with the index hovering near last week’s record.
Inflation data and regional stocks in focus
Asian chipmakers recover, with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both rallying and ending a five-day losing streak that had earlier erased leveraged bets on chip stocks at crypto exchanges. MSCI’s Asia Pacific equities index rises 0.7%, rebounding from two sessions of losses that had pushed it to its lowest close since August.Investors are also watching earnings from chip-equipment maker ASML on Wednesday and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing on Thursday. Oil continues higher, with Brent up 0.7% at about $106 a barrel as renewed Middle East attacks cast doubt on a recovery in energy shipments from the Persian Gulf, while U.S. crude rises for a fifth straight day.
Thursday’s U.S. inflation report is the next major test for markets and for Williams’ policy view. A soft enough reading to rule out a final rate hike this year could give Bitcoin scope to retest $85,000.
Our earlier article on gold prices ahead of the U.S. CPI report explained how bullion held steady as traders reassessed the odds of another Federal Reserve rate hike. We also noted that Fed officials’ remarks, higher oil prices amid Middle East tensions, and shifting rate expectations were influencing broader risk sentiment across markets.
