YZi Labs leads $11M round for AI education platform VideoTutor
Binance cofounders’ YZi Labs backs AI learning startup VideoTutor

YZi Labs has made its first investment in artificial intelligence software, leading an $11 million seed round for VideoTutor, an AI-powered education startup founded by 20-year-old entrepreneur Kai Zhao.

According to a post on X, YZi Labs — the venture firm co-founded by Binance’s Changpeng Zhao and Yi He — led the $11 million funding round to support VideoTutor, an AI-driven learning platform created by Kai Zhao in Silicon Valley. Other major investors included JinQiu Fund (affiliated with ByteDance), Baidu Ventures, Amino Capital, BridgeOne Capital, and others.

VideoTutor uses an advanced LLM + Manim rendering pipeline to create accurate, reliable educational videos powered by AI. Since launching in May 2025, the platform has attracted 20,000 users, produced over 20,000 videos in just ten days, and received more than 1,000 API integration requests from global educational platforms and institutions.

A personal tutor in your pocket

In the U.S., over two million students take standardized college entrance exams (SAT) each year, yet traditional tutoring costs $60–$90 per hour — leaving over 85% of students without access to personalized help. VideoTutor aims to close this gap by offering an AI tutor that instantly converts a simple question into a personalized, animated, voice-guided lesson.

Its content is accurate, affordable, always available, and tailored for grades 1–12, SAT/ACT prep, STEM subjects, and language learners.

According to Dr. Jing Xiong, Director of AI Investments at YZi Labs and former researcher at Google Gemini and Stanford University, most AI video startups rely on diffusion models and struggle with structured data like equations or diagrams. VideoTutor instead combines a language model with a Manim-based rendering engine, ensuring semantic accuracy, speed, visual clarity, and cost efficiency. Its customizable layout manager and LLM-based failover system provide a technically superior and reliable video generation process.

“We understand students’ needs because we’ve gone through the same learning and testing journey ourselves… YZi Labs’ mission is to use AI to democratize access to opportunity,” said Kai Zhao, founder and CEO of VideoTutor.

Funds from this round will accelerate R&D to enhance the AI animation engine and education models for faster, more precise video generation. VideoTutor also plans to expand its engineering team, strengthen infrastructure, and partner with schools as it grows beyond the U.S. into Canada, the U.K., and other markets.
