Franc weakness deepens as SNB holds dovish policy rate stance

The Swiss National Bank kept its key policy rate unchanged at 0% in September, maintaining a more accommodative stance compared to other major central banks, according to Tradingpedia. This decision supports ongoing weakness in the Swiss Franc, making the US Dollar relatively more attractive in currency markets. In turn, the central bank's dovish approach has encouraged short positioning in the Franc, facilitating the current recovery in USD/CHF.

Upside risk intensifies as overbought signals clash with strong momentum

Technical levels on the chart show USD/CHF trading above the MA-20 (Fr.0.8316) and MA-50 (Fr.0.8313) on the H1 chart, along with a firm position above the MA-200 (Fr.0.8002) on the daily timeframe. Immediate support is indicated at the Ichimoku Kijun level of Fr.0.8317. Momentum indicators are showing robust strength, with MACD and ADX pointing to persistent upside pressure. However, RSI stands at 73.8, and both Stoch RSI and CCI flag overbought conditions, suggesting a pullback risk. Bull/Bear Power favors buyers over sellers on the intraday, a signal confirmed by the Awesome Oscillator, while current price action remains close to today's high with low intraday volatility.

Price consolidation likely as volatility and breakout risks align

In the near term, USD/CHF is expected to consolidate between Fr.0.8306 and Fr.0.839 over the next 2–3 trading days. The baseline scenario sees price action continuing within this defined corridor, consistent with typical volatility. A bullish scenario would involve a breakout above Fr.0.839, potentially extending the uptrend, while a bearish outcome would require renewed selling pressure to push the pair below support at Fr.0.8306 and initiate a more meaningful correction.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees USD/CHF supported by the Swiss National Bank's dovish policy and positive technical momentum. He notes persistent buyer interest and a favorable macro backdrop for the US Dollar. Karapetjanc expects consolidation between Fr.0.8306 and Fr.0.839 in the near term, with a bullish bias if resistance is cleared. "Fundamental and macro conditions continue to support the USD/CHF uptrend, and I remain constructive above key support levels," he says.

Earlier, analysts noted that sustained bullish momentum and favorable technical conditions were supporting upside in USD/CHF. The current pattern of overbought signals and tight consolidation suggests that while bulls remain in control, traders should closely monitor for a breakout above Fr.0.839 as the next potential catalyst for further upside.
